Sell Books Online: How Pledging To “Read Responsibly” Benefits You And The Planet
Reusable coffee cups, bamboo toothbrushes and paper straws have become part of our daily lives as we all strive to make better environmental choices as consumers. But have you ever considered how your reading habits could make a positive contribution to the world around you if you were to simply sell back books you no longer need? Buying and selling used books is the perfect example of how a small, everyday habit can play a vital role in the bigger picture of combatting climate change.
How to adopt eco-friendly reading habits
Anne Marie Bonneau, a zero-waste chef said: “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” This sentiment applies to all kinds of eco-friendly behaviour. Next time you find yourself scouring the net for your latest read, take a moment to consider whether you could read more responsibly by buying a secondhand book. And when you need to make way for new novels, you can sell used books online quickly and easily right here on WeBuyBooks.co.uk Going green one page at a time? That’s the sort of everyday switch bookworms like us can really get behind. It truly is a winning formula: selling used books + buying books secondhand = happy readers and a brighter future for our planet.
Start the next chapter in your environmental journey
Reading is a gift most of us cherish, so the natural thing to do when you finish an amazing read is to pass it on to a friend or loved one. Now, you can sell used books online to help them find a new home with a likeminded secondhand saviour right here, with zero hassle and speedy payments. In fact, every year WeBuyBooks contributes towards fighting climate change by sparing roughly 150 acres of forest from the chop – just by purchasing used books and finding them new homes. Sparing even a small number of trees makes an incredible difference to the planet. So imagine the impact we could make if we joined forces and made buying and selling used books our new normal?

How does buying new books harm the planet?
You may think buying new books doesn’t pose an environmental problem. Books are made of paper, which literally grows on trees – so it can be recycled, right? While this is true, the sad fact is that producing books uses massive amounts of fossil fuels. Not only are these resources finite, but the pollution they cause has a devastating effect on the world around us. In fact, paper manufacturing continues to be among the top industrial energy consumers in the world. Therefore, the real cost of the latest bestseller making its way onto your bookshelf is so much more than you might realise.
How can buying and selling used books help the planet?
If we all committed to buying and selling used books online, instead of rushing to get our hands on brand new paperbacks hot off the press, demand for new books would decrease. Consequently, if the demand for paper manufacturing were to lessen, fewer books would be printed. Ultimately, this would mean harmful CO2 emissions created by the mass print production process would rapidly reduce. Moving towards a circular economy means reusing resources as much as we can, instead of our current linear economy which sees us use once then throw away. We can all make a small shift in our everyday behaviour doing something we love – reading responsibly.
