WeBuyBooks are proud to announce that Myaware are our latest charity partner. Myaware support people living with the rare neurological condition Myasthenia and raise money for further research.
If you haven’t heard of Myasthenia before, you’re not alone. In fact, many people are misdiagnosed or left untreated for years because it’s so hard to identify. Myasthenia is a neuromuscular disease which causes weakness in skeletal muscles.
Myasthenia is confined to voluntary muscles (like the face, arms and legs) whilst autonomic muscles (like the heart, lungs or stomach) continue to function as normal. It is caused when the body’s antibodies block or destroy the signals trying to get from nerves to the muscle. Common symptoms include drooping eyelids, double vision, trouble swallowing and weakness in muscles. There are a range of treatments available, but there is no cure as of yet.
Myasthenia is actually a group of related neurological diseases, including Myasthenia Gravis, Ocular Myasthenia, Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome and Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome. All are autoimmune diseases, apart from Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome which is genetically inherited. CMS has similar symptoms, but must be treated differently because it is genetic.
Myasthenia affects people of all ages, races and genders. Around 12,000 people in the UK are currently living with Myasthenia and Myaware is there to support them with help, advice and care.
Myaware were founded in 1968 and are the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to supporting people with Myasthenia. They are committed to raising awareness of Myasthenia and how it affects the people who have it. They also provide help to people living with the condition, from financial advice to health tips. A large portion of their money also goes towards funding further research into cause, treatment and cure.
There are lots of ways you can support Myaware. They frequently hold fundraising events and have an amazing team of volunteers who raise money for them. Whether it’s running a marathon or jumping out of planes, their fundraisers always go above and beyond. Of course, they accept monetary donations as well, which can be made in person or online.
Now there’s a new way to donate to Myaware! When you sell your old books to WeBuyBooks, you can choose to donate the value of your sale to Myaware. It’s a win-win situation - you get rid of your old books and Myaware makes money without having to lift a finger!
When you sell your books to WeBuyBooks, you can donate the money from that sale directly to one of our charity partners. We have a range of charities to choose from, all raising money for great causes. There are local charities, national charities, children’s charities, animal charities, and now Myaware.
We like to think our charity feature cuts out the middle man. Instead of donating items to a charity shop and waiting months to make a sale, the charity gets the money straight away. It also means they don't have to pay overhead costs like rent or heating either. They make money without having to do a thing!
The process of selling your books remains the same - simply enter the ISBN or scan the barcode as normal and accept our offer. When you get to checkout, instead of entering your bank details, simply select the option to donate to charity instead. Then, you’ll be able to choose from one of our charity partners, including Myaware.
Our customers make an average of £30 by selling their unwanted books, CDs and DVDs to WeBuyBooks. When you sell over £25 worth of items, we automatically increase the amount we pay out by 5%! So, that’s £31.50 that you could donate to one of our charity partners. The more items you sell, the more money you’ll be able to raise for Myaware, supporting people with Myasthenia and funding research to find a cure. So have a good clear out and see what items you can sell to support this incredible charity! We buy books, CDs, DVDs and more.
