First on the list is the obvious choice, no matter how many books you have it’s likely you will be able to donate them to either a charity shop or library. This method of recycling your books is completely free and super easy. As long as your books are in a decent condition, donating your books is a great way to give those books a new life and stop them just going to landfill.

Recycle your old books

As a general rule it is easier to recycle paperback books in your recycling bins at home, however there are still options when it comes to recycling hardback books. Often, a quick google search will give online services that will take and recycle your books. Another option is taking a trip to your local recycling tip as usually they have bins specifically for books which is a great way to recycle your old reading material en masse. Curious about what happens to your books when you recycle them? Well, it’s pretty cool, when books are sent off for recycling, they are taken to a pulping facility where they are sorted, dismantled and pulped ready to make new paper and cardboard.

Sell your books

Now, of course what can be better than turning you unwanted books into cold hard cash? The best thing about this option is that it’s a lot easier than you might think, for example when you use WeBuyBooks to sell your books all you have to do is log into the app, scan the barcodes and the app will do the rest for you. You will be given an offer for the items you scan and all that remains is to accept the offer and post those books off. WeBuyBooks can even send someone to pick your books up, so you don’t even need to leave the house.

Swap your books

Even if you’ve read all the books in your collection, it can be painful to see them destroyed, sometimes you just can’t quite bring yourself to sell them either! Well, why not have a chat with some friends and arrange a book swap? This is a great way to discover new books and you get the added bonus of a recommendation from a friend. Not only are you giving your books a new home, you can rest easy knowing that they are with someone that will appreciate them and should the desire to re-read the book in question then you will always have the opportunity to get it back.
