Pay a visit to a small corner of North West England and from a distance you might think you’ve seen an oversized post box, or even a giant birdhouse – come a little closer however and you’ll see it’s actually our very own Free Little Library, packed with books to suit all ages and tastes.
You’ve probably already heard of the Free Little Library phenomenon sweeping the world (and there are literally thousands of them popping up) – but if not here’s a little bit of background… The concept came about in Wisconsin when a man mounted a wooden container on a post on his lawn and filled it with books as a tribute to his mum, who was a book lover. The word soon spread and the rest, as they say, is history!
We wanted to do something to share our love of books with our local community – and as a result we went about creating our very own Free Little Library! Work started in earnest on creating our quirky Free Little Library, with all our staff getting involved and helping out, whilst we were busy building the Library the Mayor of Rossendale popped in for an impromptu tour of We Buy Books HQ and when we explained what we were doing she offered to perform an opening ceremony!
Our Free Little Library was officially opened on 18th July and does exactly what it says on the tin – the library is little and the books? Well I’m sure you’ve guessed… they’re free! With our Free Little Library there’s no late fees, no due dates and no library cards are required. Our doors are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – what’s not to love?!
Our Free Little Library holds around 50 books and is replenished daily with books to suit all! Once borrowers have finished their book they can keep it, pass it on to friends or return to the free little library – it’s really that simple!
So, if you’re ever in the area why not take a look at our Free Little Library and help yourself to one of our books?
