Revealed: The famous books we never finish…

Revealed: The famous books we never finish…

Man reading booksIt’s Sunday morning, you’ve a new book in hand and you’re ready to be enraptured, but a chapter in and you’re already fed up! You close the book, huff and puff and vouch never to give it a minute of your time ever again, or something along those lines anyway!

Woman drinking a mug of tea and readingDon’t worry you aren’t the first and you won’t be the last to abandon a book so prematurely, in fact it’s quite common and many book lovers will be able to sympathise with your struggles!

Every once in a while we’re all going to come across a book that just doesn’t do it for us, which is why we’ve put together a list of the most famous books we never finish!

From Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time to Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James there are some surprise inclusions. Even the classic The Great Gatsby failed to capture the imagination of many readers.

Here’s a selection of the famous books we just can’t seem to finish:

Catching Fire by Suzanne CollinsCatching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Despite us all absolutely loving the Hunger Games, the second book in the trilogy isn’t catching everyone’s imagination with less than 50% of readers going on to finish the book!

The Great GatsbyThe Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Even classic literature can’t keep us all hooked, with just 3% of readers making it to the end of this relatively short novel.

50 shades of greyFifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James

Believe it or not only a quarter of people who set out to read the erotic romance novel succeed in doing so! Perhaps it’s too much for some people, who knows?

Lean In BooksLean In by Sheryl Sandberg

Many of you were opting out rather than leaning in!

Thinking fast and slowThinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

Fast to put the book down, just 6.8% of readers are predicted to finish the Nobel Memorial Prize winner’s summary of his research.

A Brief History of TimeA Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking

More like a brief read for many with less than 7% of readers expected to plough through to the end, sorry Stephen!

Capital BookCapital by Thomas Piketty

Surprisingly just 2.4% of readers make it to the end of this riveting tome focusing on wealth and income equality in Europe and the US since the 18th century, seems an intriguing read to me!

Hard choices bookHard Choices by Hilary Clinton

More like an easy choice, with less than 2% of readers expected to see it through to the end of Hilary’s memoir of her time as Secretary Of State.

So which books have you recently left unfinished? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
